Hospital Elder Life Program looking for volunteers

Do you have a positive attitude, a few hours of free time each week and an interest in playing board games, telling stories or doing arts and crafts? If so, then NHH has a volunteer opportunity for you. The successful Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) is currently looking for volunteers interested in spending several hours a week with senior inpatients.

Dr. Jackie Gardner-Nix has built an entire medical practice around her desire to help patients cope with chronic pain that doesn't respond to standard medical interventions like medication or surgery. Now, thanks to the Ontario Telemedicine Network program at NHH, she is bringing her practice--and a Mindfulness-Based Chronic Pain Management Program--to this community. Registration is now open for her next patient and health provider courses this fall.

This exciting local project is working with a $3-million research grant from The Change Foundation to improve seniors' experiences as they move in, out of, and across Ontario's health system. Led by NHH, the project involves local seniors, caregivers and close to a dozen health and community agencies. There are many ways to participate and join the PATH conversation!
