The Dixie Mikel Award was presented at the 2011 Annual General Meeting of the Northumberland Hills Hospital Auxiliary.

The Award, established in 1991, is given to a student volunteer entering post-secondary study in any area of health sciences. Irene Harmsen, this year's recipient, started as a volunteer in 2009, has contributed over 152 hours of service, mainly in the Emergency Department, and distinguished herself by her reliability, maturity and grace.

Irene will be attending the University of Ottawa and told the Auxiliary that volunteering at NHH has made neurosurgery and medical research her top two career choices.
